Sally McManus

Sally McManus is the secretary of the ACTU and the first female to be elected to that position.

Politicised at age 11 by the sacking of her high school history teacher, Sally has since campaigned and represented workers as a union organiser and as the Secretary of the Australian Services Union NSW Branch.

A feminist and a socialist, Sally has exploded into the national debate as Secretary of the ACTU by coordinating last year’s ‘Change the Rules’ campaign which saw hundreds of thousands of workers advocate for secure employment, time to care, overhauling labour hire and industry-wide bargaining for fairer pay and conditions.

Sally is a leading voice in debates around economic and social justice.
